About Carlton Trail Cottage
Nestled in the Forested Thickwood Hills, a 90 minute drive north of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Lake Savard is a hidden gem. It is completely surrounded by 1120 acre Carlton Trail Nature and Wildlife Sanctuary, and adjoins a vast track of natural recreational forest.
The lakeside Carlton Trail Cottage is your perfect hideaway. The turn-of-the-century replica homestead has all the comforts of home while giving you a taste for pioneer life: a wood burning stove, burlap curtains decorating the windows, pots and pans hanging from the wall, hand made quilts on the beds.

The cottage is fully equipped for you to do your own cooking or, if you prefer, a gourmet home-cooked meal can made for you.
Attractions and Special Features

What our guests enjoy most is the chance to experience nature in a beautiful and peaceful setting, but without the hubbub often associated with lakeside resorts.

Walking and hiking possibilities are unlimited, with trails in the rugged hills offering everything from a gentle stroll to energetic all-day outing.

When winter arrives the trails are ideal for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and snow shoeing.

Canoes and row boats are waiting for you to take a leisurely paddle or to try your luck at catch-and-release fishing for Northern Pike and Walleye. Travel on the lake is strictly non-motorized.
The small country general store stocks staples items such as flour, sugar, tea, old fashioned candies, homemade bread and pies, and a selection of handmade quilts and tanned native crafts.

The working ranch is home to the legendary Texas Longhorn cattle breed. These magnificent animals roam in a natural chemical-free environment producing lean, tender and healthy organic meat, which is available for purchase.

A must is a visit to the hilltop buffalo jump where, during the great hunts of yesteryear, stampeding herds of buffalo plummeted to their deaths. In places you can still see remnants of the historical Carlton Trail which, during the days of the fur trade and opening of the west, provided a link between Winnipeg and Edmonton.
